Minister of Music

Job Title: Minister of Music (permanent, part-time)

Commencing: Fall of 2025

Primary Role: to creatively lead, oversee and grow the worship music ministry at Calvary Baptist Church.

Church Context:

Calvary Baptist Church http://calvary-baptist-church.ca/ is a mid-sized congregation in East Toronto affiliated with the CBOQ (Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec). Our congregation comprises of approximately 60 people. We have a hybrid online/phone and in-person attendance of 40-50 with an in-person attendance that ranges from the mid-20s in the summer to approximately 35 the rest of the year. We are a diverse family culturally, socially and generationally. We are committed to life-giving, blended worship, endeavouring to incorporate the best of old and new musical expressions utilizing organ and piano each week. Other instruments augment our worship on an occasional basis.

 

Responsibilities:

·         Work in conjunction with our Pastor, select music for the weekly blended-worship services

·         Lead the congregation in hymns and contemporary praise music - with the assistance of vocal leads and other instrumentalists (including practice(s))

·         Take leadership in planning, implementing and leading musical components of worship for special events outside of Sunday worship services (Christmas/Easter/etc)

·         Initiate, encourage and develop the musical gifts within our congregation

·         Oversee the tuning and maintenance of the organ and piano

 

Qualifications:

·         A vibrant Christian faith

·         Instrumental skill (organ, piano, guitar, etc)

·         Good relational skills and an enthusiastic presence for leading the congregation in worship

·         Experience and proficiency leading/directing a variety of musicians including vocalists and instrumentalists

·         Current Toronto area resident

 

Compensation:

·         12 to 14 hours weekly

·         Permanent, part-time contract

·         Dependant on education and experience
