Saints Joachim & Ann Church is a small suburban parish with over 200 registered families across all demographics. There is an 11 rank Casavant Frères Organ (1954) in the choir gallery and a 5 rank chamber organ (1879) near the sanctuary. The music includes Gregorian chant in Latin and English translation, polyphony, metered hymns and pieces from the heritage of sacred music.
Job Description
- Choir Director
Part Time of 8 hours weekly contract position
Duties
- rehearse and direct the choir at the 10 AM Sunday Mass and at major feast days of the liturgical year such during the Christmas, Lenten and Easter seasons
- work closely with the organist and be supervised and directed by the parish priest
- Train and develop the choir
- Hold 1.5 hour choir rehearsals weekly at a mutually agreeable time from September to June.
Vacation Time
- 4 weeks outside of major liturgical seasons and times to be negotiated with the Parish Priest
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Music, currently enrolled in a degree programme, or equivalent education and experience
- Formation and experience in directing choirs
- Proven vocal skills and musical competence
- Knowledge of the Catholic liturgical tradition or a willingness to learn
The position is remunerated according to RCCO salary scale guidelines. The anticipated start date would the Fall of 2025. The initial deadline for applications is October 1, 2025 although the position will remain open until filled.
