Scholarships

The RCCO offers a wide variety of scholarships at all levels of experience.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR BEGINNERS

There are scholarships available for beginning organists across the country funded by the College Development Fund.  (Centre officers can access guidelines and application procedures on the Resources for Centres page.) Many Centre scholarships, offered and administered locally, are also available at the beginner level.

EXAMINATION PRIZES

Prizes are also awarded each year for high standing in the College examinations. Click here for a complete list.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED BY CENTRES

Some Centres also offer and adminster scholarships beyond the beginner level.  Information on Centre scholarships is available here.  Please note that applications for these scholarships should be submitted to the sponsoring Centre. 

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ADVANCED STUDY

For complete information on each of the following, click on the name of the scholarship.

THE SIR ERNEST MACMILLAN MEMORIAL FOUNDATION PRIZE

This award is available every two years (in odd numbered years) annually to a Canadian citizen or permanent resident under 30 years of age to support the artistic development and career advancement of a young organist.

THE GODFREY HEWITT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available annually to a Canadian student or to landed immigrant in Canada for graduate studies either inside or outside Canada.

THE WALTER MACNUTT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available every two years (in odd numbered years) to RCCO members for private study to nurture the development of the accomplished and dedicated liturgical musician.

THE JOHN GOSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available every two years (in even numbered years) to an individual for advanced organ study outside Canada. 

THE LORNA & MURRAY HOLMES SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available annually to a student entering a programme of organ or church music studies at a Canadian University.

THE HELEN SKUGGEDAL REED MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available in annually to a student from the Atlantic provinces enrolled as an organ major in a uiversity music program.

 THE BARRIE CABENA MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is available in even-number years to a Canadian student enrolled in full-time studies at the undergraduate or graduate level, either inside or outside Canada.

 THE RACHEL JOY BROWNELL MEMORIAL BURSARY

This bursary is intended to expand the musical horizons of organists from isolated communities by providing financial assistance to attend an RCCO National festival.

CLIFFORD MCAREE SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded annually to a student of organ at university level to enable attendance at a National Festival of the RCCO.

LILIAN FORSYTH SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded annually by Knox Presbyterian Church, Ottawa to encourage musical studies by organists, choir directors and composers.

LORNE DOTTERER SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is awarded annually by Knox Presbyterian Church Goderich, Ontario to support continued music education for recent high school graduates.
