St. John's Anglican Church, 272 Wilson St. East, Ancaster, Ontario L9G 2B9, is receiving applications for the position of Organist and Director of Music to offer leadership in support of the worship and mission of St. John's, due to the retirement of the existing Director of Music after a long and mutually happy tenure. The liturgical pattern is Eucharistic, with resources largely drawn from the broader Anglican Communion. A musically literate parish, St. John's enjoys a growing mixture of established and new musical resources. Current duties include: playing and leading an SATB choir at 10 am Sunday worship, Holy Days, festivals; arranging seasonal evensongs and guest recitals; meeting with wedding couples and playing weddings; being on call for funerals; Thursday evening choir practices; meetings with clergy and staff; administration of copyright license; care of the church music library; a general spirit of support and participation in the worship, mission and fellowship of the community. The Parish is supportive of the potential for growth and development in the music ministry. Though hired by the Corporation (Wardens and Rector) the Director of Music is responsible to and reports to the Rector. Information about the 1988 Keates-Geissler organ is found at www.ancasteranglican.org. Excellent Kawai pianos are in the church and large choir room. RCCO scale will be used to establish remuneration to the qualified candidate. Position is currently 20 hours per week and participation in Pension and/or Benefits is available in consultation with central payroll of the Diocese of Niagara. The Catholic Diocese of Hamilton in Bermuda is seeking a Director of Music for St. Theresa’s Cathedral and for the Diocese of Hamilton. For St. Theresa’s Cathedral, the successful candidate will serve as Director of Music and Organist for all Parish and Cathedral liturgies and be responsible for the training of cantors, as well as the recruiting and directing of youth and adult choirs. For the Diocese of Hamilton, this position serves as Director of the Diocesan Choir and acts as a resource to the six parishes of the Diocese, and Mount Saint Agnes Academy, the only Catholic school in Bermuda, as needed. A degree in music is required, preferably an advanced degree in music and/or liturgy, with a minimum of five years experience. This position also requires excellent organ and piano skills, as well as proven abilities in choral conducting and voice. Personal qualities must include people skills, leadership abilities and organizational competence. Bermuda is a small mid-Atlantic island of approximately 68,000 people, of which 3,000 are practicing Catholics. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to develop a wide range of liturgical music programs on both Parish and Diocesan levels. ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF MUSIC. CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL OTTAWA seeks applications for the position of Associate Director of Music for its extensive music ministry. The Associate Director reports to the Dean and Wardens and is supervised by the Director of Music. Principal duties include the direction of the Cathedral Girls' Choir (artistic and administrative) and organ-playing responsibilities (service voluntaries, recitals, and accompaniment of the Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys). Preferred applicants will have significant choral-directing and accompanying experience, extensive familiarity with the liturgical ethos of the Anglican Church of Canada, and excellent references. This is a half-time position (average of 20 hours per week) with a salary range of $22,000 - $25,000 per annum with pension benefit and the option of group health benefits. St. George's Anglican Church, Trenton, ON (received April 9, 2012)
Choir Director/Organist required for St. George's Anglican Church, Trenton, Ontario, to start July 1, 2012. The church features a newly restored (2010) dual manual, 18 stop, full foot-pedal, Edward Lye and Sons pipe organ and a Yamaha P250 Electronic Piano. There is a volunteer choir of 12 to 15 mixed voices that meets on Thursday nights for rehearsal. The musical menu at the church features a mix of traditional hymns (Common Praise hymn book of the Anglican Church of Canada) and contemporary music (Songs for a Gospel People, Taize and others). We also maintain a CCLI license and expect the choir director to access contemporary material. In addition to the choir, organ and piano there is a volunteer guitar accompanist most Sundays. The use of other instruments ( e.g. flute, violin ) and musicians is welcome. The organist's duties include playing for the weekly 10:00 a.m. Sunday Service, training and rehearsing the choir on Thursday nights (approximately 2 hours), playing for funerals and weddings and special Holy Days ( Christmas, Easter, Patronal Festival ), and choosing, in consultation with the Incumbent, the hymns and anthems to be sung. The successful candidate will be familiar with Anglican Liturgy (BCP and BAS) and Anglican church culture. Though hired by the Wardens (in consultation with the Incumbent) the Organist is responsible to and reports to the Incumbent. It should be understood that the musical programme is to support and enhance the worship life of the community at all times. St. Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church, Pierrefonds, QC, is seeking a Music Director commencing as of May 2012 to provide musical leadership in an active Montreal parish. Located in the West Island, we are a parish of approximately 120 families with a vibrant, active role in the community and a deep passion for music. We are seeking someone who is also vibrant and energetic with the capability to lead the congregation spiritually through music. The music director will be responsible for leading the congregation on Sunday mornings at an 8:00 am traditional service and a 10:00 am contemporary service. The selected applicant should be proficient as an organist and equally comfortable playing piano. The organ is a two-manual Allen Digital Organ. The applicant should also be able to provide leadership to an approximately 15-voice SATB choir as Choir Director during feast times in the liturgical calendar. Duties also include musical leadership of a Contemporary Praise Team with vocalists and instrumentalists, including guitarists and drums. A strong knowledge of Anglican music and liturgy, as well as the ability to select repertoire for both Choir and a Praise Team is important.
