Welcome to the website of the Niagara Peninsula centre. Our centre covers all parts of the peninsula from St. Catharines to Niagara Falls, Welland, Port Colborne, Fort Erie and all points between, and is presently comprised of thirty-one members. We strive to raise the awareness of the organ and church music generally by a programme of public events and by social occasions for our members.

THREE WELLAND GEMS

On Saturday, November 7th, about 15 Niagara Centre members and guests toured three Welland church organs and became aware of three well-kept secrets that have been eluding Niagara organists for years.  The committee of Ken Stevens, Robert Anderson, and Dave Cowan arranged a visit to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, St.Matthew's Lutheran Church, and Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Ken also provided stoplists and a history of each organ.Reserve the date and watch for the flyer giving further details.

Holy Trinity's organ is a fine instrument that fits the English style nave well and is very versatile especially for its 2 manual size.

St. Matthew's is a mechanical action Walcker instrument, ideally suited to the room and to the musical tradition of the Lutheran congregation. The touch is very light and well-balanced, and a pleasure to play.

Joan Glaab is the organist at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, and she showed us through the impressive building and the wonderful 42 rank organ, installed by the Dodington's, that is still a work in progress. This symphonically styled instrument, combined with the excellent acoustic of the room, made one imagine what Franck might have improvised on it.

The 4th manual will eventually accomodate the Midi capability, planned for the near future and housing 200-plus new voices
